Our Vision for 2026: Digital Art as Cultural Infrastructure
Digital Art Is Not a Novelty. It's Cultural Infrastructure.
At Sugar Glider Digital, we've always believed that digital screens can do more than display advertisements. They can tell stories, support artists, activate communities, and transform the built environment into something genuinely meaningful. Here’s why this mission matters now more than ever.
Sugar Glider Digital’s Mission
We help organisations transform their digital screens and spaces into curated art experiences that deliver cultural, reputational, and community value.
We support reorientation away from short-term advertising spend, and toward something longer-lasting: licensed digital art programs that enrich the environments people live and work in every day.
Our services span corporate and hotel lobbies, bespoke commissions, public space activations, and event installations. In every case, the goal is the same: to move beyond visual noise and toward genuine cultural impact.
Why Digital Art, and Why Now?
The post-advertising era is here. Audiences are fatigued by campaigns that arrive and disappear. Budgets are tighter, and organisations are rightly asking: what does this actually deliver?
Digital art offers a compelling answer. Unlike a campaign, a curated digital artwork is a long-life asset, one that builds reputational value over time, supports employee wellbeing, fosters community engagement, and differentiates a space in ways that advertising simply cannot. It reaches people who may never actively seek out a cultural experience: the employee arriving for work, the visitor crossing a lobby, the passerby on a public street.
This is why we recently submitted to Australia's National Cultural Policy Consultation. In that submission, we argued that digital art, including LED media facades, screen-based works, responsive installations, and projection mapping, is no longer a novelty. It is cultural infrastructure, and it deserves to be treated as such.
The Infrastructure Gap
Here's the challenge: screens are being installed everywhere, in building lobbies, public precincts, and civic spaces. But too often, those digital screens default to advertising or corporate messaging. What's missing is the policy framework and the commissioning culture to activate digital art consistently and fairly for artists.
That's the gap Sugar Glider Digital exists to close. With over 13 years of expertise through our sister consultancy Art Pharmacy, Australia's leading B Corp-certified art consultancy, we bring deep knowledge in art curation, digital storytelling, and space activation. We handle everything from curation to setup, so our clients can activate their spaces with confidence.
Artist-First, Always
Every project we take on is grounded in a commitment to paid opportunities for Australian artists. Supporting local creative talent isn't a footnote to our work. It's central to our model and our values. When organisations choose Sugar Glider Digital, they're investing in not just their own spaces, but the broader cultural ecosystem for digital art.
Who This Is For
Our work is relevant across sectors:
Corporate and workplace environments: elevate shared spaces, support employee wellbeing, and create lasting impressions on clients and guests
Property developers and architectural precincts: integrate digital art programs into placemaking strategies that deliver genuine community value
Public, civic, and cultural organisations: reflect First Nations seasons, community stories, and local identity through dynamic, updatable digital art
Event activations and festivals: captivate audiences with digital art experiences that go beyond signage
If you're a property decision-maker, a workplace culture lead, a council placemaking team, or an ESG consultant, this work is for you.
Let's Create Something Meaningful
The post-advertising era isn't coming; it's already here. And the organisations that move first will be the ones that build the deepest reputations, the most engaged communities, and the most culturally resonant spaces.
